Production Overview

100% PURE RAGE began as a deeply personal vision by 18-year-old first-time film-maker, Haruki Ryles, who initially set out to create the film independently. Early in the process, Haruki crossed paths with classmate Finn Williams, who believed in the story's potential and came on board to help bring the vision to life.

The majority of the project was shot with a crew as small as 1-3 people—often just the Director, the DOP, and the actors. The team managed to shoot the first two acts of the film on a shoestring budget of under $500. Despite the limited resources, the passion and commitment of the team carried the project forward.

To gauge audience interest and rally support, a test screening was held at the University of Queensland Film Production Society (UQFPS). The positive feedback from that screening inspired the team to launch a GoFundMe campaign to expand the scope of the production. They successfully raised $3,000.

With increased recognition and community support, the production grew in both crew size and quality, allowing the filmmakers to elevate the final act and deliver a more ambitious and refined conclusion to the story.

The Message & Goals

The film is a fun action-packed passion project that revolves around a lonely young adult who struggles to make friends and live life. It covers themes of identity, existentialism and purpose through light-hearted action and adventure elements in the story making it an easy and enjoyable watch for all audiences. The movie is a passion project made from an authentic and genuine lens, crafted by the love of young filmmakers; what we didn't have in budget we made up for in creativity, passion and authenticity.

We essentially made a project that a studio would normally pick up for millions of dollars with its blockbuster-like premise - but it is a must see for all Australians as it proves that anyone can make a big movie with lots of hard work and a strong community. We were able to secure resources that would have otherwise cost us a lot of money through countless favours and generous help from others.

Adapting the script, editing and filming concurrently brought its own unique challenges but also advantages. It allowed us to adapt the story depending on what we were able to access with our limited resources and time. At the end of the day, time, resources and relationships were the real currency behind how this was all possible.
